In the article, Of Course Abortion Should Be a Litmus Test For Democrats, the author, Lindy West, talks about how there are a few democrats supporting anti-abortion and how they need to be pro-choice. You can find republicans who are pro-choice. You can find this situation in both political parties. However, people need to realize what it means to make it illegal to have an abortion. When considering facts of whether or not abortion should be illegal, I think people fail to put themselves in a situation where they needed one. If someone was raped, then yes they should be able to get an abortion with no questions asked. I do not understand why people think that they can have a say about what someone does to their own body. No one will fully understand until they have been in that situation themselves.
I agree with Lindy, I think people should have the choice of what they want to do with their own body. If a women feels that it is necessary to get an abortion for what ever reason she should not be questioned about it. I personally think that it should be easier for women to get an abortion if there was a situation where it was needed. It should not be other people choice what someone does to their body. If a women was in a situation where she had been raped and became pregnant she should have the option of getting an abortion. I do not think men should ever have a vote on what a women does to their body as women should not have a say of what men do to their body. If the roles were switched I think men would feel the same way. Senator Bernie Sanders is right. We have to appreciate the knowledge and access to what we have and support the pro-choice, always.

In her Blog Stage 7 post, Hailey Casey of the blog Politics Around the United States argues about how she is pro-choice. She makes serval points as to why she believes abortion should be legal. For example, she claims that if a woman has been raped then she should be able to have an abortion. Hailey believes it should be easier for women to get an abortion and that they shouldn’t be questioned about their decision. She also believes it is not up to the father to make that decision.
I would have to disagree with Hailey. First, murder is illegal. The definition of murder is “the unlawful killing of another human being without justification or excuse.” I believe an embryo is the first stage of life. For example from the textbook Medical Embryology, "The development of a human being begins with fertilization, a process by which two highly specialized cells, the spermatozoon from the male and the oocyte from the female, unite to give rise to a new organism, the zygote." This shows that an embryo is a human life, therefore, abortion should not be lawful.
Another reason abortion should be illegal is the physical health risks. According to Louisiana Department of Health, Pelvic infection, incomplete abortion, blood clots in the uterus, and heavy bleeding are just some of the health problems that can occur. Complications like these or having multiple abortions can affect the ability of a woman to bear future children. After an abortion, many women become seriously depressed. According to WebMD, a study analyzed by David C. Reardon “concluded that abortion is linked to later depression.” Although, many of these studies have not be proven I believe depression plays an ugly role in the abortion process.
The 14th amendment of the Constitution claims that no person should be “deprived of life…without due process of law.” This shows how an abortion is unconstitutional and how it deprives a human being of life without recourse to the due process of the law. A helpless, innocent fetus cannot defend itself.
I believe a father should have a say in whether to abort his child or not. It takes two to create a baby, thus both mother and father have the responsibility. The fetus is not a woman’s possession or part of her body. It is a separate living individual, thus I believe the expression “my body, my choice” is incorrect.
The only (and I mean ONLY) reason I would understand the concept of an abortion is in the case of rape or for the health of the mother. But even then, there are other alternatives, like the morning after pill which would avoid the situation completely. In conclusion, abortion remains a very controversial topic today. Life is a gift, life is to be cherished, and I believe everyone should have a chance to live.
On August 3rd, 2017, my classmate Hailey Casey voiced her opinions concerning abortion on her blog Politics around the United States. She is pro-choice, with her reasonings being that it is a woman's choice with what to do with her body. Hailey believes that women are put in situations where they feel it is necessary to abort their unborn child without being questioned, especially when a woman was raped and impregnated.
I completely agree with Hailey. A woman getting pregnant by their rapist should definitely have the choice to not give birth to that child. Another reason abortion should be legal is for the teens, or the woman who can't support herself let alone the child, or perhaps a woman who just wasn't trying for a baby. Any and all reasons a woman doesn't want or can't bring a child onto this earth should be enough.
On the other hand, Ashley E. argues against abortion in the comments. She states that "the 14th amendment of the Constitution claims that no person should be 'deprived of life... without due process of law,'" but that's saying that the justice system will decide for a woman that she must birth and care for a child that she does not want. Is that at all Constitutional—forcing a woman to endure the pain of child birth for a life that hasn't yet lived?
All in all, I absolutely support abortion, with hopes that if I ever need to have one in the far, far future that I would be able to.
